16. AI Features
Handbook X provides AI-powered features using on-device AI models to answer questions about your documents.
Note: This feature is an experimental beta. It is only available on devices running iOS 26.0 / iPadOS 26.0 / macOS 26.0 or later.
AI Settings
Select "AI Settings" from the side menu to open the AI settings screen.

Model Selection
You can select an AI model based on your device's capabilities.

Selecting a Model
- The currently selected model is marked with a checkmark
- Tap the model you want to use to select it
- Tap the "ⓘ" button next to each model name to view detailed information
Downloading a Model
To use models other than Apple On-device Model, you need to download them first:
- Tap the model you want to download
- Tap "Download" to start downloading
- Progress is displayed during download
- After download completes, the model is automatically selected
Deleting a Model
You can delete downloaded models from your device:
- Tap the trash icon next to the model you want to delete
- Tap "Remove" in the confirmation dialog
- The model is deleted and Apple On-device Model is automatically selected
Guardrail Rule (Prompt)
You can add rules (prompts) to AI instructions. Set rules are applied to all AI responses.
Adding Rules
- Tap "Click here to enter your rule..."
- Enter a rule (e.g., "Always respond in English")
- Press Enter or tap Done to add
Deleting Rules
- Tap the trash icon next to the rule you want to delete
- Tap "Remove" in the confirmation dialog
AI Chat (PDF Section)
When viewing a PDF section, you can use the AI chat feature to ask questions.
Displaying the Chat Screen
In the PDF viewer, tap the AI chat icon (document with sparkle icon) to display the AI chat panel on the right side of the screen.

How to Use
- Enter a question or command in the input field
- Placeholder: "Ask or command......"
- Tap the send button (green upward arrow)
- AI generates a response
- Responses are displayed formatted in Markdown
Example Questions
- "Please summarize this document"
- "List the main points as bullet points"
- "Explain more about 〇〇"
- "Describe the content on page 3"

Help
Tap the ? icon to display AI feature help:
- You can ask questions about the content of the current section
- When asking questions about PDFs with multiple pages, we recommend selecting an AI model other than Apple On-device Model
- Tap "Jump to AI Settings" to go to the AI settings screen
Clearing Chat History
- Tap the clear icon in the top right
- Tap "Clear" in the confirmation dialog
- Chat history is deleted
Note: This action cannot be undone.
Privacy and Security
AI features are designed with privacy in mind.
On-Device Processing
- When using Apple On-device Model, all processing is performed on the device
- PDF content and chat content are not sent to external servers
Download Models
- Downloaded models like Qwen3 are also processed on the device after download
- Model files are stored locally and inference processing is completed on the device
Notes
- This feature is an experimental beta
- AI responses are for reference and accuracy is not guaranteed
- Processing may take time for long PDFs with multiple pages
- Apple On-device Model is suitable for short texts. Other models are recommended for long PDFs
